Changunarayan which is regarded as the oldest temple of Nepal is supposed to have been constructed in 4th century. The temple
which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu is listed in World Heritage site. The temple
is located at top of the hill, which is surrounded by forest with champak tree
and small village. The temple is adorned by some of the best specimen of stone,
wood, and metal craft in the valley. The temple built in pagoda style came into
existence in lichhavi period. The temple was rebuilt in 1702 after a major fire
occurred.

The statue of "Garuda"is facing the front side of Temple.Garuda is supposed to be the flying vehicle of Lord Vishnu which has got human face and is a devotee of Lord Vishnu.

The statue of "Garud Narayan" is supposed to have been sculptured in 9th century. This image appears in 10 rupee note. The statue is in north side of the temple.

The white thing in the red circle is supposed the size of single grace of rice. It is believed that in the ancient times single grace of rice used to be enough for a person.

The image of sridhar Vishnu with laxmi and garuda dates back to 7th century. The image is just to the north of main entrance to changu narayan Temple. Vishnu stands on pedestal holding chakra wheel and lotus in his right hand and small mace club and conch shell in left hand.
