Homestay and Ghalegaun

Homestay is a type of lodging that tourists share with the homeowner with the intention to learn culture and lifestyle from the homeowner who is willing to transmit and share their culture. The homeowner prepares lodging and food for the tourists with reasonable pay. Home-stay is different experience in comparison to other modes of accommodation such as a hotel, motel or bed and breakfast.Thehe location of the homestay is normally situated in rural areas where the whole community is still practicing the traditional way of life and embracing strong culture and traditional practices.

Ghale gaun is one of the popular destination among the many homestay destinations of Nepal. Ghale gaun is located at lamjung district of Nepal at an altitude of 2000m above sea level. It is the main entrance point to face annapurna trekking route. Ghale gaun is a beautiful village where we can learn and experience tradition and culture of gurung people. Ghale gaun not only offers local lifestyle but also offers magnificent view of mountains including Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Himalchuli, Machhapuchhare, Bouddha Himal etc. The major occupation of local people are agriculture and livestock farming.



In Ghale gaun homestay program, one can get the first hand experience about the village life of Nepal. Villagers welcome with warm greeting wearing traditional customs and offer tika and 'sel' to visitors. Local food, gurung culture, breathtaking view of mountain are its main attractions. #Tea and Fapar ko sel

Early in the morning they knock your door and offer you hot tea. Most of them serve 'fapar ko sel' or boiled egg with tea and ask what you want in your lunch. One can then go to near chaur(grassfield) for the beautiful sunrise and magnificent view of mountains.

From Ghale gaun one can trek to Ghanpokhara. The trekking route follows through dense forest, villages, waterfalls, beautiful khudi and midim rivers. Village trek to bhujung is another destination one can go from Ghale gaun. Bhujung village is largest gurung settlement in Annapurna conservation area which is situated 1600m above sea level. One village one settlement, unique mode of settlement, organic local food, tea garden etc are the major attractions in the village.

Travelling to Ghale gaun can be done by hiring a vehicle from besisahar. For those who love to trek can go through trekking route which will take around 5-6 hours. We can see many small village while on the route.
